Fourth Grade Reading

This web site is designed to help teachers and their students prepare for the Fourth Grade Reading Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). It includes resources for teachers as well as practice activities and tests for students. Many of the materials are also available in a print-friendly format.

Introduction
Teaching strategies
  • This section explains nine important reading strategies. Each strategy has an overview, which can be presented to a class. There is also a student activity to accompany each strategy.
Rubric scoring
  • This section explains rubric scoring used on the FCAT and gives examples of sample responses with appropriate scores. There are also sample responses which can be scored by either students or teachers to increase understanding of rubric scoring.
Practice tests
  • This section includes nine FCAT practice tests for Fourth Grade reading. Immediate feedback is provided for the multiple choice questions. Sample responses are given for short and extended response items to allow comparison of student's answer with a top-scoring example.

What happened to the old site? The original version of this site used pop-up windows and did not work properly for users who had their browsers set to display exceptionally large text. The use of frames also made it difficult to bookmark particular pages. Many schools now block pop-ups, so we created this version of the site that does not require a pop-up window. This version will also allow you to enlarge the size of the text in your browser and bookmark any page you wish. If you prefer the original version of the site, you can find it here.
