Review Passage:

Over the years, sailors have used many methods to find their way home. Early navigators had to stay within sight of land to keep from getting lost. Then, a thousand years ago, the compass was invented. The compass always pointed north so sailors could use it to stay on a true course. Later, in the 1700s, the invention of the chronometer (to measure time), and the sextant (to measure angles), allowed sailors to find their locations when far from land. Today we use Global Positioning Satellites (GPS) to pinpoint our exact location. Each invention has helped sailors improve their ability to get home safely.
