Using Technology
to Enhance Learning: Hermit Crab Races
 In this experiment, the
students watched hermit crabs to compare their speeds and rates.
 First they measured the
hermit crabs in their shells.
 Then they let the hermit
crab run for 5 seconds and measured how far it went.
 This allowed the students
to calculate the speed of the hermit crabs.
By using a ratio, the students
predicted how far students would run based on their heights.
 The students tested their
results by running for 5 seconds and comparing the distance they actually
ran with their predictions.
 Using a spreadsheet program
allowed the students to calculate the higher math that they were less
familiar with.
