Red Camellia Flower
- Description: Detailed view of a red camellia flower. There are around 250 species of camellia flowers throughout the world with the camellia japonica, pictured here, being the most popular. Alfred B. Maclay bought the first camellia japonica plant in 1924 from the Gamble family in Tallahassee. The plant was around 90 years old, the oldest plant in Tallahassee, when he bought it for seventy-five dollars. The plant was affectionately named after an aunt in the Gamble family. Today, the "Aunt Jetty" plant can be seen throughout Maclay Gardens.
