Sign at the Ribault Monument. "St. Johns Bluff. From it the Sea may be seen plaine and open... --Laudonniere, 1564. Through the centuries this ancient sand dune has been familiar to Indian, Frenchman, Spaniard, Briton and American. The monument here is a replica of one left by Jean Ribault at the mouth of the river claiming the land for France in 1562."
