  • Our school was 200 yards from Lake Victoria. Everyone got their water from the lake in buckets. They carried the buckets home on their heads. I always wondered about the water in our lake. There are many gold mines near Lake Victoria. Gold mining can release lots of toxic metals, especially mercury, into the environment. I always wanted to be able to measure the lake water that we drank to see how if it was safe.
