The Date 1933

Detail of Here & Now: A Monument to the Victims of National Socialist Justice located in Hamburg, Germany. The date 1933 marks the beginning of the Third Reich. A nearby sign reminds us that in 1933 "the German court was the willing organ of the National Socialist Dictatorship. Judges and lawyers enforced decisions characterized by racial hatred against Jews, Poles, Russians, and other groups. Almost all kept quiet about the injustice. Only a few tried to resist."
