Virtual Reality Movies: Fort Oberer Kuhberg

Each panorama movie is available in two file sizes. The small movies display at the same size on your computer screen as the large movies, but the small movies do not allow you to zoom in on as much detail as the large movies do. All movies are a full circle (360 degrees) unless noted otherwise.


Oberer Kuhberg Appellplatz

At the center of the fort was the Appellplatz (roll call area) where prisoners had to stand for hours in all weather
conditions.


Oberer Kuhberg Door to Prison Cells

The concentration camp Oberer Kuhberg was located on the premises of Fort Oberer Kuhberg in Ulm Germany. The camp was in operation from November 1933 until July 1935. The fort has been preserved in substantially the same condition as when it functioned as a concentration camp. Through this door is a spiral staircase down to the prisoners' cells. The dark, damp cells had dirt floors.


Oberer Kuhberg Wall

Fort Oberer Kuhberg was built from 1842 to 1857 to protect the city of Ulm. High walls surround the fort. A total of 800 male political prisoners were held here during the camp's year-and-a-half existence.

This view is from within the walls of the fort. Originally a defensive structure, many parts of the fort are located underground. The entrances to some of these areas can be seen on the hillside.

The Nazi regime used the concentration camp at Fort Oberer Kuhberg to isolate political opponents.
