Exploring the Geography of Europe

Grade Level: Middle School

Objectives

  • To name the countries of Europe
  • To locate the countries of Europe
  • To place the countries of Europe in the correct position

Procedure

  • Distribute laptops and instructions
  • Have students log on using their student user name and password, this will enable them to view “Mr. Guy’s Links” under the Favorites menu.
  • Using the appropriate link (www.sheppardsoftware.com) the students will be examining the Geography of Europe and learning the locations of it nations.
  • First, the students will begin on the L LEVEL (learning level) to learn the proper pronunciation and location of each nation.
  • After they have completed the L LEVEL they are to continue on to the next level (1) and attempt to correctly complete it. I usually require a certain percentage be answered correctly to move onto the next level. Beginning this project I required 70%. As we went on I raised it to as high as 90%.
  • This activity is designed for each student to work at their own pace and judge their own comprehension of the material

Materials

  • Laptops, at least two carts (32 all together)
  • Instructions
  • LCD projector to model correct implementation of the activity

Alternatives/Extensions

  • For ESE students I typically let them keep a copy of a map they created to use as a reference while doing this.
