Map study

Students in Grade 2, “Use different types of maps (political, physical, and thematic) to identify map elements.”  There are maps available from the FCIT site that can be used to give students a variety of maps to look at, compare, and contrast.  Examples include  Historical maps,  Exploring Florida Maps, and Native American Maps of Florida.  Students also will need to identify state, national capital, state capital, and their hometown. Consider using a resource from Verizon Thinkfinity, Continent Assembler, which has students reassemble maps of the seven continents.

Google Earth will help the students gain a perspective of their world and would be a good choice for an activating strategy.
