When discussing various means of travel, consider sharing information on the history of railroad travel.  The idea of a railroad connecting the mainland of Florida to the Florida Keys was the vision of Henry Flagler.  Ask students to research railways in Florida (or in other states).  How did the railroad change America’s history?

Take a look at the National Park Service website, for the script to the Re-Enactment of the Last Spike Ceremony.  Designed for grades 4-6, this would be a great way of helping history come alive for your students.
