Skype in the Classroom

Used to be that teachers would have limited access to ways of sharing the ‘world’ with their students.  I used to be fascinated as a child, by the globe that was always handy in our classroom.  Today’s teachers have many options, from resources available through FCIT to Google Earth.  For a more personal touch, why not try using Skype.

A good resource to get you started is Mr. Kennedy’s Class Blog.  This teacher has outlined ways to use Skype to connect with global classrooms. You may wish to access Multicultural Education Through Miniatures from FCIT, which is a site that offers a view of other cultures through miniature pieces of art.  Images included are from Alaska to Wales.  Imagine using this miniature as an Activating Strategy and then using Skype to speak with someone from that particular country.
