Bob Black: Navy Medical Corps
Clip 5

I was in the Navy, but I was attached to the Marine Corps. The Navy furnished all the medical care for the Marine Corps. I was in the Navy Hospital Medical Corps and I spent a short time in Vietnam trying to take care of marines. I got wounded twice and they sent me home and I spent seven months in the hospital. The Medical Corps men and women were the only medics in the field and what we tried to do was keep the soldiers alive who got wounded . They had a very high chance of survival if we could get them on the helicopter alive. Unlike Korea and World War II, where the wounded didn't have a chance to get good medical care, in Vietnam they did. The wounded would be in a field hospital often within 5 minutes.
