When my father returned from Vietnam, only family members were allowed outside by the plane. Having a lot of family members at the airport, lessened the chance that returning soldiers would be accosted by protesters. Almost a year after that, we went to Germany and lived on an army base, so we were sheltered - we weren't out in the public were people had the chance to protest and yell at soldiers. When my family came back from Germany, we lived on an army base in North Carolina. By then, six years had passed and the protests had lessened.
