Stephanie Bridges:
A career soldier
Clip 5
My father joined the army right out of high school, so he'd been in the army since 1950. He'd served in the army fifteen years before going to Vietnam. The army was his job because he wanted it to be his job. So, if you have a job and your boss tells you to go sweep up the street and you want to keep your job and your paycheck, you better do what you have to do. His job was sergeant in the Army, so when they said you're going to Vietnam, he said, "Yes sir." They told him to pack his bags; he was going out on Midway for three weeks at a time. That's what he did. He never went to college. He graduated high school, so he was in the army at 1950.
