Dr. Tom Cole:
Education in the service
Clip 1
I want to discuss with you how education helped me through life. I've never worried about a buck. I've always been able to make enough money to sustain myself the way anyone would want to be sustained. I stayed in the service for thirty-three years and then I retired. I became a tennis coach at the University of Texas Brownsville. So, I was in good shape. You know a lot of people have strokes because they're not in good shape; I was in darn good shape. But you know, I had the stroke and it settled in my Vietnam injury. That's the reason I have this damn thing in my hand. The point I want to make is if your folks can't afford to send you to college, consider going into the service because I had a wonderful life and I think you would have one too.
