Good Outcomes
Clip 5
Student: Is there anything good that came out of your going to Vietnam?
Alex: Well, I met the other guys in my unit, we were really close. Since we pretty much lived together, we each knew what the other was thinking. If we got into different scrapes or fire fights, we had faith that our comrades knew what to do and that's what allowed a lot of us to survive. Since we were a small unit, the enemy ambushed us quite a bit in order to steal our weapons. So, I'd say meeting the guys that I lived with there; it was like a big family. Also, teaching the children and helping the villagers was really something. Wars are fought to save people. Basically, we went to Vietnam to help them save their way of life and to help them get the freedoms that we have in this country. That's pretty much what we went over there for.
