Tom Hall: Living in the trenches
Clip 2

Khe Sanh received shelling (rocket fire) constantly every day. We had to live underground in trenches. We had to live with the rats. We stunk and our clothes were rotting off of us. We had a hard time sleeping because of the shelling. We looked like death warmed over. When talking to a fellow soldier, you always checked to see which way the wind was blowing, that way you could jockey for position and get up wind, so he would have to smell your stench instead of you smelling his. Our clothes and equipment were red because of the clay; it was a real fine dust when it was dry and a real thick mud when it rained.
