Jefferson Hoss: USS Lexington
Clip 1

I served on the U.S.S. Lexington which is an aircraft carrier. It was built and launched during World War II. The ship that preceded it was also named Lexington and it sunk during a battle in the Coral Sea. The ship's sinking was very unusual in that it did not turn on its end, but instead went straight down. The ship was on fire and blowing up and the Japanese had already left. Everyone abandoned the ship and they were pick up by escorts and taken to safety. All of the personnel on the ship were saved. They had to destroy the ship; destroyers came along beside it and blew her up.
