Hoss:
A floating city
Clip 3
Mr. Murray: How far from the front of the boat to the back of the boat?
Mr. Hoss: 3 football fields.
Mr. Murray: That's like the hospital over there...bigger than the hospital probably.
Mr. Hoss: Yes. And there is everything on an aircraft carrier. It's a floating
city. You can make anything, literally, anything you want made. There are specialists and tools. There are a lot of personnel on board. They served food
24 hours a day and there were three large locations for the enlisted men to eat.
They had what they called the "ge-donk" (the sound of ice cream going
into a soap) which was where you could get sandwiches, pop, etc. I was on that ship for 4 years and we ran out of fresh milk only about 3 times and milk never lasted long.
