I drove an armored personnel carrier down US Highway 301 to Silver Spring. Maryland, and then into Washington, D.C.. We went in there and broke up most of the riots. Our orders were to gas and hold. We had concussion grenades, but we didn't have fragment grenades. Basically, we broke up the riots and then held the rioters for the federal marshals. The rioters overran the National Guard so easily, they were able to take some of their tear gas grenades, so that made things difficult.
