The Art Education program was initiated under the leadership of Dr. Willard McCracken in 1960. Over the years, the faculty members for this department included: Dr. Richard Loveless, Dr. George Pappas, Dr. Hayden Bryant, Dr. Anita Unruh, Dr. Marvin Grossman, and Dr. Paul Czyzewski. While the main mission of the department was to preparing art education teachers for service in K-12 schools, faculty members also taught a foundation course called Art for the Child for all students majoring in elementary education. In 1977, the Art and Music Education programs were merged. Since 1981, the program has been housed under the School of Art and Art History at the USF College of Fine Arts.
