• The FCIT Teaching Tools 2001: FCAT 5th Grade Math CD is located at your school. Your school has permission to burn more copies. You may also access this teaching tool online at:

  https://fcit.usf.edu/fcat5m/default.htm

• Complete the enclosed pretest.
• Complete the “Directions” and “Navigating through Module 3” sections using a separate sheet of paper for answers.
• Complete the post test.
• Complete the Training Assessment Survey.
• Attach the pretest, post test, Training Assessment Survey, answer sheet, and your lesson plan to this module.
• Send to Elementary Mathematics Office, Administration Building, Pony Route #4.

Directions for MacIntosh users

1. Insert CD into the CD ROM drive. A window will appear.
2. Double click on the Read Me icon and read the instructions to make sure you have the necessary browser, Quicktime movie player, and Adobe Acrobat installed. These installers are included on the CD.
3. Close the Read Me window.
4. Double click on Start.htm. This opens FCIT Teaching Tools 2001.
5. Click on FCAT 5th Grade Math Staff Development Tool and you will see the menu page.

Directions for PC users

1. Insert the CD into the CDROM drive.
2. Double Click on My Computer.
3. Double Click on the CD. This is usually the D: drive.
4. Double click on the Read Me icon and make sure you have the necessary browser, Quicktime movie player, and Adobe Acrobat installed. These installers are included on the CD.
5. Close the Read Me window.
6. Double click on Start.htm. This opens the FCIT Teaching Tools.
7. Click on FCAT 5th Grade Math Staff Development Tool and you will see the menu page.

1. Begin with the Introduction.
2. Read the instructions on the right side of the screen to view the movie.
3. Click on the link for each of the nine sections. View the Quick Time movies. Describe the content of each of the following sections:
   
   Introduction
   Teacher Lesson: Active Learning
   Teacher Lesson: The Literature Connection
   Teacher Lesson: Real Life Activities
   Teacher Lesson: The Science Connection
   Teacher Lesson: The Social Studies Connection
   Teacher Tools: Manipulatives for Concept Development.

   Teacher Resources: Performance Tasks, Articles, Lesson Plans, and much more!
   
   
4. Develop a mathematically rich lesson modeled after the five lessons from the CD using the NCTM content and process standards. Teach the lesson. Attach your lesson plan to this module.
   
   
5. Analyze and reflect upon your lesson by responding to the following questions and tasks:
   1. Describe how the process standards were a part of your lesson.
   2. What impact did this lesson have on increasing students’ comprehension of the skills/ concepts taught?
   3. What insights about your students did you gain from this lesson?
   4. What changes did you make to your teaching style to accommodate this lesson?
   5. How has the planning and teaching of this lesson impacted your thinking about mathematics instruction and student achievement?
