Working with Manipulatives

These four sets of activities encourage students to work with various manipulatives, such as cuisenaire rods and pattern blocks. The activities guide students to use mathematical applications while performing the task. The tasks also encourage teachers to assist their students in working with the various manipulatives.

Working with Cuisenaire Rods: working with number ideas, investigating measurement concepts
Working with Geoboards: working with polygons, exploring area and perimeter
Working with Pattern Blocks: comparing and contrasting pattern blocks, exploring fractions and investigating geometry concepts
Working with Tangrams: problem-solving, spatial sense, relationships among pieces
