The dropdown Select School<\/strong> menu will present you with a list of all schools where you have been assigned as an observer.<\/p>\n Next, select the teacher\u2019s name from the Select Teacher<\/strong> dropdown list. This list will be populated with every teacher at the selected school who has been entered into the TIM system.<\/p>\n Always keep in mind that the unit of observation in the TIM-O is the lesson<\/em>, not the teacher<\/em>. You are selecting the name of the teacher whose lesson<\/em> your are about to observe.<\/p>\n When you have made your selections for method, school, and teacher, click the Begin an Observation\u00a0<\/strong>button.<\/p>\n This will begin a series of questions, each of which asks about a clearly observable activity in the classroom. This method will very quickly converge on a profile for the lesson, so you can take your time at the beginning of the observation before diving in. We recommend observing the lesson for at least five or ten minutes before you begin answering questions. Since each question after the first depends on your answer to the previous question, it’s not possible to go backwards a step in the series of questions. Therefore it\u2019s best to take your time to observe carefully at the beginning.<\/p>\n The first question will always be, “Is technology being used in the lesson\/activity?” If you answer “No”\u00a0there will be nothing else to observe and the system will immediately take you to the summary screen.<\/p>\n Hopefully, your answer to the first question will be “Yes.” In that case, you will be presented with a second question which is always, “Are the students directly using technology?”<\/p>\n If most of your teachers are at the lower end of the TIM, you will\u00a0see very similar questions each time you do an observation and you will often be able to get to a final profile in as few as five or six questions. The system asks only the bare minimum number of questions necessary to determine which of the 3,125 possible TIM profiles best matches the observed lesson.<\/p>\n As you begin to observe lessons\u00a0at higher levels of technology integration, you will see an increasing variety of follow-up questions, but very rarely will it require more than a dozen questions to determine a profile.<\/p>\n When the system has asked enough questions to determine a profile, it will automatically send you to the Lesson Summary\u00a0<\/strong>Indicators\u00a0<\/strong>page. \nThe TIM-O is designed to guide principals, teachers, and others through the process of evaluating the level of technology integration within a particular lesson and helps provide a clear picture of the professional development needed to support further technology integration. Two variations of the TIM-O are available within TIM Tools. The TIM-R allows for teacher reflection and the TIM-LP is used for lesson plan review.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

\nThe TUPS is the perfect tool to use annually, or at the beginning and end of any technology project to measure the changes in how teachers relate to technology in their work. It supports teacher inquiry by providing the teacher with a tool for recording changes in classroom usage of technology. The information is also useful for planning technology infrastructure and support and getting a snapshot of the perceptions of teachers.<\/p>\n

\nThe ARTI tool provides a framework for teachers to design and conduct their own action research projects. ARTI takes teachers through the five basic steps of an action research project including: identification of a question, description of the context, data collection, analysis, and the creation of findings.<\/p>\n

\nThe Report Tool allows a school or district to create new reports using the Report Builder. Choose the option to create new TIM-LP, TIM-O, TIM-R, or TUPS reports. Use the Report Tool Dashboard to review the number of complete, incomplete, published, and unpublished reports in your system. View all previous reports, along with newly created reports, in the Report List.<\/p>\n

\nThe Survey Tool allows a school or district to create surveys on new topics as needed. The surveys can be offered to TIM members only or made available to the general public. Surveys can be built from scratch or users can start with a survey from the included library of sample surveys.<\/p>\n
