Obtaining Faculty Development Credits
The Florida Department of Education requires institutions granting the ESOL endorsement through infusion to document that faculty teaching ESOL-infused courses complete the equivalent of a 3 credit course in ESOL Education (i.e., 45 contact hours plus reading & assignments or 60 clock hours of faculty development). The ESOL TAPESTRY tutorial modules may be used as partial fulfillment of this requirement.
For each ESOL TAPESTRY tutorial module, 5 hours of faculty development can be earned by completing the pre-viewing questions, watching the video and browsing the associated websites and articles, and answering the post-viewing questions using information from the video, websites, and articles. You may document completion of the tutorial module by printing your responses to the pre-viewing and post-viewing questions and presenting them to your institution.
Each set of pre-viewing/post-viewing questions is accompanied by a box granting or denying permission to use the responses for research. To thank those who indicate that their responses may be used for research purposes, we will send an ESOL TAPESTRY Certificate of Completion of 5 hours of ESOL faculty development to the respondent. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation in this research.
If you are interested in completing additional faculty development hours by exploring the tutorial module articles more in depth, we suggest that you speak with your institution's ESOL coordinator regarding writing article critiques/responses. Some issues that you might consider addressing in your critique are what ESOL issues/approaches discussed in the article overlap or are in conflict with those in your field and how you would use the information to enhance your infused classes. Your ESOL coordinator can work with you to determine what the appropriate number of hours of credit should be for the article critiques.
We greatly appreciate your willingness to allow us to use your pre-viewing and post-viewing questions for research purposes. Thank you for your support and cooperation.
