Our Mission
In Literacy Studies, our programs of research and innovative practices are focused on the individual and collective navigation of a complex social, textual, virtual, and global society. We recognize the value of developing literacy skills for a participatory culture while fostering dispositions for literacy leaders who promote individual expression and community engagement through literacy in multiple ways.

Reading Endorsement
The State of Florida Reading Endorsement Certificate program is designed to meet the needs of K-12 teachers who want to increase their effectiveness as teachers of reading.
These courses provide an in-depth view of reading research, theory, and the application of sound and current scientific research.

Masters in Reading
The Online Masters of Reading at the University of South Florida is a distinctive program designed for those who wish to become certified in Reading Education K-12 through the completion of a master’s degree. The program is designed to prepare effective literacy leaders such as reading coaches and reading supervisors for early grades through high school.

Educational Specialist in Reading/Language Arts
The Ed.S. in Reading/Language Arts is a systematic program of coursework and research experiences focused on the advanced study of reading and literacy processes within a global and multi-mediated society. The program includes mentored research experiences to enable students to pursue leadership positions in positions such as literacy coaches, curriculum specialists, teacher leaders, literacy supervisors, and teacher educators.

Doctor of Philosophy
The Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction: Concentration in Literacy Studies prepares research scholars with expertise in literacy processes, literacy instruction, and literacy teacher education. The program features in-depth exploration of literacy theories and research, the broad study of systematic inquiry skills, apprenticeship learning of various research methodologies, the development of personalized strands of research, and a mentored residency experience in literacy teacher education.
