A visitor to the memorial first encounters a mother trying to protect her children.

Arbor of History. In this area, the story of the Holocaust is told through photographs etched in black granite.

An eternal flame burns in the Dome of Contemplation.

Dome of Contemplation. This stucco-covered structure evokes the horror of the gas chamber with its scratched walls.

The Lonely Path. In this tunnel are carved the names of major camps in the Nazi system including Jasenovac, Belzec, Sachsenhausen, and Dachau.

The Final Sculpture. The visitor again encounters the mother and children from the beginning of the memorial.

A second Anne Frank quotation is carved just above the figures. "Ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us only to meet the horrible truths and be shattered."
