A visitor to the memorial first encounters a mother trying to protect her children. Behind the beginning sculpture is the first of two quotations from Anne Frank. "Then, in spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart."

Arbor of History.
Arbor of History. In this area, the story of the Holocaust is told through photographs etched in black granite.

An eternal flame burns in the Dome of Contemplation.
Dome of Contemplation. This stucco-covered structure evokes the horror of the gas chamber with its scratched walls.

The Lonely Path. In this tunnel are carved the names of major camps in the Nazi system including Jasenovac, Belzec, Sachsenhausen, and Dachau.

Behind the final sculpture is the second of two quotations from Anne Frank. "Ideals, dreams, and cherished hopes rise within us only to meet the horrible truth, and be shattered."
