The USF College of Education and the Central American nation of Belize signed a cooperative agreement in 2000 aimed at using computer technology to improve its educational system. The agreement, which was known as the Belize/USF Education Initiative 2000, called for the USF College of Education to provide technological assistance to K-12 schools and for institutions of higher education to implement the use of computers in instruction, administration, and nationwide communication. Several educators from Belize ultimately enrolled in the Instructional Technology doctoral program in the College of Education.
