Preface

The College of Education 50th Anniversary History Project has been written to present the story of the development and achievements of the College of Education of the University of South Florida.

The sources of information used in writing the 50-Year History of the College of Education included the following sources:

  • USF Directories 1964-2005, USF Agean Yearbooks 1964-1982;
  • Summarized articles from the USF Oracle, Tampa Times, and Tampa Tribune from 1964-2005;
  • USF Catalogs 1960-2005, College of Education Scrapbook 1960-76;
  • USF Office of Sponsored Research Yearly Reports 1971-2005;
  • USF Media Relations Publications Intercom;
  • Inside USF 1971-2005;
  • Facilities Planning Archives.

The College of Education 50 Year History Project will be permanently housed on the College of Education’s website and will hopefully become a “living history” with periodic updates being made to the document. Also, the 25 oral histories of retired and currently employed faculty that are featured in this document were also videotaped. All resources used in the project will be available to future historians and will be located in the USF Library Special Collections Center.

In addition, it will be published on 2,000 CDs that will be distributed to the College of Education and USF community. The user-friendly design will allow the reader to select any of the 17 sections on the main menu and then select a specific topic under each chapter. Overall, there are over 100 different topics that can be easily accessed with three clicks of a mouse.

The College of Education’s 50 Year History Project Team invites you to take a look inside and learn about the many positive contributions that the faculty and staff have made to the field of education and the University of South Florida over the past 50 years.
