Description: This map from the U. S. Geological Survey Water Resources Investigation Report number 95-4296 shows the areas around Leon County where the Upper Floridan aquifer is confined and unconfined. The unconfined areas of the aquifer are either areas where the top of the aquifer is either at or near the surface in a predominately karst landscape, or the aquifer is overlain but not confined by Miocene and Pliocene age sediments. The confined areas are overlain by low-permeability Miocene and Pliocene age sediments. An important land form feature on this map related to the unconfined aquifer is the Barwick Arch which lies southeast of the Apalachicola Embayment-Gulf Trough feature, and is predominantly karstic.
