  • My chemistry teacher amazed us every day by burning something, changing the color of something, or just plain old blowing something up. He did some exciting new demonstration almost every day for two years. I was never late for his class because I always wanted to see what he would do next.

  • During my first year of college, I earned a bad grade in my chemistry laboratory class. When I came home for the summer, I told my mother that I needed to become a better cook, since chemistry lab was like a cooking class. My mother was happy to let me practice following recipes in her kitchen (I got an A in her class and still like to cook today).
