Photos: Germans Confront Nazi Atrocities

SS officer Eichelsdoerfer stands among the bodies of prisoners killed at the Kaufering IV concentration camp, April 1945. Eichelsdoerfer was the commandant of the camp. A German girl is overcome as she walks past the exhumed bodies of some of the 800 slave workers murdered by the SS guards near Namering, Germany, and displayed here so that townspeople could view the work of their Nazi leaders. American soldiers of the U.S. 7th Army force boys, believed to be Hitler Youth, to examine boxcars at Dachau containing the bodies of prisoners who had starved to death, April 30, 1945. German civilians are forced to view a wagon loaded with the corpses of Buchenwald prisoners, April 16, 1945. Austrian civilians are forced to dig mass graves for the corpses found in Gusen, early May, 1945.
