Introduction

This section contains a number of tasks that may be useful as practice performance tasks with students. To help prepare students for FCAT, such tasks should be scored using the general rubrics applied to FCAT short-response or extended response questions.

The tasks included here come from three sources:

In addition, another good source for rich, extended problems is the Problem Solver section of Teaching Children Mathematics, one of the publications of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The Jan 99 – May 99 problems are on the web as part of that month’s issue of the journal. Other problems can be found in other issues of the journal. A few months after the publication of the problem, sample responses submitted by children are often published in the journal.
