On Maps, ETC you will find a collection of over 5,000 historic maps representing many different time periods. Use maps in GIF or JPEG format for classroom presentations and student websites and PDF versions for displays, bulletin boards, and printed school reports.

Exploring Florida Maps

The Exploring Florida Maps collection includes over 6,000 historic and contemporary Florida maps, including detailed county level historic maps for every Florida county. Your students can also browse hurricane maps, congressional districts, and maps of Native American tribal lands.

Florida History

Florida Then and Now

Florida Then and Now includes seventy reading passages about the history, environment, commerce, and people of Florida. Each text passage focuses on one topic and includes captioned illustrations, maps, tables, and diagrams. Each passage also includes separate documents for teacher notes, reading strategies, comprehension questions, and student activity sheets.


Floripedia is a collection of texts of primary source documents from the history of our state. Here you’ll find turn-of-the-century reports on the early citrus industry, pamphlets advertising the state to northerners, historic newspaper articles, and first-hand accounts from Floridians involved in the Civil War and the Spanish-American War.

Exploring Florida

Exploring Florida hosts thousands of contemporary and historic photographs of Florida’s people, animals, plants, cities, parks, beaches, and wetlands. ExFL also offers over 100 virtual reality movies and over 1,000 3-D stereoviews of Florida’s past and present.

Personal Accounts of History

Historian Carl Becker said, “History is the memory of things said and done.” Through resources on FCIT sites, your students can explore those memories through the first-hand accounts of the people who were there.

Teacher’s Guide to the Holocaust

On FCIT’s award-winning Teacher’s Guide to the Holocaust site, you can download written accounts and videos in which Holocaust survivors tell their stories.

On The Viet Nam War: Oral Histories site, students can view personal accounts of veterans.

The primary mission of Lit2Go is to provide text and audio recordings of classic children’s literature. But did you know that Lit2Go also includes historical works like Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and his 600 word autobiographical sketch? You can also download printable text versions and MP3 audio versions of works by Susan B. Anthony, Washington Irving, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and many others. Lit2Go also includes essays and articles describing life in Florida in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
