Dr. John P. Manning is a new assistant professor for the Early Childhood Education in the College of Education at the University of South Florida, Tampa. He is moving from his most recent position at the University of Central Florida, Orlando. Dr. Manning received his Ed.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he explored the impact of child care directors on program quality.

Prior to assuming a full-time career in academia, Dr. Manning was an administrator for the licensing of childcare programs in Massachusetts. He was employed in a variety of positions from licensor to assistant director of group day care licensing to regional director of both the Boston and Springfield regions.

Dr. Manning's research agenda include issues of institutional power that impact the quality of care in childcare settings, specifically: licensing; child care directors; and professional development and pre-service training.

Dr. Manning's current projects include Childcare Globalization; the Medication use in preschool settings; and the Impact of folk psychology on college students’ views of child development.
