Miami Skyline

Miami Skyline

Miami's skyline from the harbor, Florida. The skyline of Miami, "The Magic City" of Florida, has much the appearance of the skyline of New York City. The story of the growth of this East Coast city reads like a tale of the Arabian Nights. Here skyscrapers have risen in rapid succession, evidence of men's foresight and courage and their confidence in the permanence of the Florida sunshine. Sunshine and climate are the very foundation of Miami's popularity and growth. These are inexhaustible resources, a permanent lure for the many millions in the North who annually migrate to tropical sections to avoid the rigors of winter. Northerners were slow to discover the advantages of Florida climate and its possibilites as a winter playground. But once started, the travel and the real estate building and business operation quickly assumed the proportions of an avalanche. So Florida did everything with quadrupled speed, sought and reached goals in values, population and otherwise in an amazingly short period of time. The growth of Miami exceeded in speed and extent the prediction of the most farsighted, shattered every record and every prediction. Every building or business program to cover a five or ten year period had to be revised and supplemented before it was scarcely underway. Surrounded by ocean and gulf from Fernandia to Pensacola, and with more than a score of navigable rivers and thousands of lakes, canals, and bays, Florida enjoys the best of advantages from water transportation. In addition, she has more than 7,000 miles of railroad connected with her farms, groves, and factories by good roads.
