Water Oak Tree
- Description: Resurrection fern growing on a water oak tree. Water oak is a deciduous tree, native to the Southeastern United States. It usually grows up to 100 feet tall and has a trunk around 3 feet in diameter. It can grow in wet, swampy areas and along ponds and streams, hence its name. However, wet areas are not the only environment in which the tree can grow. The usual life span of water oak is only around 60-80 years, but they are able to grow and reproduce rather quickly. Acorns produced by the water oak are eaten by many animals including white-tailed deer, squirrels, raccoons, turkeys, ducks, and quails. Humans have used the tree for fuel since the 17th century.
