Spanish Moss
- Description: Tree covered in ivy and moss. Folklore in the United States explains the origin of Spanish moss through a story about a man whose Spanish fiancˇe comes to South Carolina in the 1700s. One day as they are walking in a forest, they are attacked by Cherokee who cut off the fiancˇeÕs beautiful hair and throw it in a tree as a warning to stay off their land. Later, the hair began to turn gray and grow throughout the trees of the forest where it is still found today.
