German identification sheet for James Cox of Crawfordville

Description: Capture July 30, 1944 in France near St. Loix. The Germans were forced to move prisoners as they were pushed by the Allies from the west and the Russians from the east. Cox was in eight different prisons, each worse than the one before. Alacon and Chartres in France. Limburg, Ladhlberg, Furstenberg, Buckenwalde, Shoenbeck and Hildesheim in Germany. Liberated April 22, 1945 by Russians. A few days later he walked to an American truck that took him and others to an airfield and was flown to an American camp in Reims, France. From there he boarded a ship back to the United States.
