In July 1966, the College of Education hosted the National Education Association (NEA) Classroom Teachers National Conference. Dr. Bill Dannenburg, who was newly appointed as Assistant Dean for Administration for the College of Education, served as the coordinator of the event. Three hundred and fifty of the nation’s outstanding teachers were in attendance.
The National Education Association (NEA), currently the nation’s largest professional employee organization, has a long history of working on behalf of educators for causes related to the advancement of public education. Dean Battle frequently invited outside organizations to hold their meetings and conferences on the USF campus. Meetings such as the one held by the NEA, allowed faculty members and students to be exposed to current issues related to educational policies and teacher preparation as well as to develop relationships with other advocates of public education.
