Faculty Honors

The following is only a small number of the many honors bestowed upon the faculty of the College of Education in the past 50 years.

Dr. Ann Barron
Dr. Barron received the Jerome Krivanek Distinguished Teaching Award in 2000 and the USF President’s Award for Excellence in 2003. She is also listed in Who’s Who in Instructional Technology.
Dr. Michael J. Berson
Dr. Berson received the Florida Council for the Social Studies International Relations Award in 2000.
Dr. Michael J. Berson and Dr. Barbara Cruz
Dr. Berson and Dr. Cruz received the Association of Educational Publishers Distinguished Achievement Award in Learned Article Category in 2002.
Dr. Louis Bowers
Dr. Bowers received the USF Distinguished University Professorship in 1996.
Dr. Roger Brindley
Dr. Brindley was identified as an Honored Professor by the National Society of Collegiate Scholars in 2001. He also received the USF President’s Award for Faculty Excellence in 2003.
Dr. Michael Curtis
Dr. Curtis received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National School Psychologists in 2004.
Dr. Barbara Cruz, Department of Secondary Education
Dr. Cruz was the first recipient of the USF Outstanding Research Award in 2004. In addition, Dr. Cruz has twice been awarded the Carter G. Woodson Book Award. In 2002, she was honored for her book, Multiethnic Teens and Cultural Identity. In 2006, she again received the Carter G. Woodson Book Award for César Chávez: A Voice for Farmworkers.
Dr. Constance Hines
Dr. Hines was named the managing editor of the Review of Educational Research Journal of the American Educational Research Association from 2002 to 2005.
Mr. Anthony Jonaitis
Mr. Jonaitis was elected to the Florida Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame in 2006.
Dr. Joan Kaywell
Dr. Kaywell received the USF Jerome Krivanek Distinguished Teaching Award in 2002.
Dr. Ellen Kimmel
Dr. Kimmel received the USF Distinguished University Professorship in 1996.
Dr. Barbara Loeding
Dr. Loeding received the John Hopkins National Search for Computer Solutions for Assisting Persons with Disabilities Award 2003.
Dr. Richard Pride
Dr. Pride was awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters in 1994 and from USF. In 2000, the Hillsborough County School Board opened a new school which was dedicated as Pride Elementary School to honor his legacy and commitment to education.
Dr. Janet Scaglione
Dr. Scaglione was chosen by the Business Education Association as the Florida Outstanding Post-Secondary Educator in 1993.
Dr. B. O. Smith
Dr. Smith received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Florida in 1975.
Dr. Barbara Spector
Dr. Spector was elected to the status of Fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2006.
Dr. Carlos Zalaquett
Dr. Zalaquett received the 2004 USF Hispanic Heritage Award.
