The Kingsley Plantation is located on Fort George Island in Jacksonville. The unusual floorplan of the main house includes four corner rooms or pavilions. The main house is connected by a covered walkway with the kitchen to the left. (Kitchens were usually detached from wooden houses to reduce the risk of fire and to keep heat out of the main house.) The white barn in the far corner of the yard is constructed of "tabby," a type of concrete made from a mixture of burned shell, sand, and water.Credit: Panorama movie produced by the Florida Center for Instructional Technology from original photographs.
