- My name is Jonathan Merten and I study analytical chemistry. Analytical chemists identify and measure chemicals. I use special kinds of lasers to study the composition of metals. Our laboratory is very noisy because my labmates and I blow samples up with our lasers and then study the different colors of light that they give off. It sounds like we study firecrackers.
