Dr. Roger Brindley is currently the Associate Vice President for Global Academic Programs at the University of South Florida and is part of the leadership team in USF World responsible for helping this National Research I university further develop international partnership and policies as the university seeks to broaden international engagement and extend international teaching and research endeavors. Specifically, USF World advocates:
- Increasing both the incoming international student population and the quality and diversity of international student experience for “home” students,
- Developing global curriculum across disciplines at USF that results in broader cultural understandings
- Establishing a new generation of processes and policies to encourage, support, and safeguard faculty and students studying abroad and/or completing global research and
- Renewing effective existing international university partnerships and establishing new strategic partnerships.
Dr. Brindley has been a faculty member at the University of South Florida for fifteen years. In 1998 he initiated the British Schools Experience summer field experience for education majors at USF. He has also coordinated two of the four graduate cohorts to complete the M.A. in Early Childhood Education program taught in coordination with Shortwood Teachers College in Kingston, Jamaica. Dr. Brindley is deeply committed to extending the global curriculum and helping the next generation of university students to develop global perspectives and international cultural competencies.
In 2000 Dr. Brindley received the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award from the university and in 2001 was identified as an “Honored Professor” by the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. In 2003 he was the recipient of the University of South Florida President’s Award for Faculty Excellence. Dr. Brindley spent three years as the Chairperson for the Department of Childhood Education and Literacy Studies from 2006-2009, was Chair of the University Graduate Committee for two years, served on the Provost Search Committee (2009), the Provost’s Budget Taskforce (2008) and the Provost’s Chair Steering Committee (2008-2009). He is also the former Director of the University of South Florida College of Education Honors Program.
Dr. Brindley has written numerous articles published in national and international journals, has served as the Associate Editor for the International Journal of Early Childhood and as a guest Editor for Action in Teacher Education. As a founder member of the National Association for Professional Development Schools (NAPDS) he served as the Senior Editor for the blind-peer reviewed association journal, School-University Partnerships between 2005-2009.
