Teaching Strategies

In this section, strategies that teachers can use in the classroom are outlined and correlated with the Sunshine State Standards.

These strategies address several of the skills tested on the FCAT at the 8th grade reading level. Skills such as vocabulary, main idea and supporting details, comparison and contrast, and author's point of view are included.

The majority of passages given on the 8th grade FCAT are informational texts. These passages are written primarily to inform and may include nonfiction articles, informational essays, biographies, and graphical presentations of text such as tables and illustrations.
