Introduction

The MAT in Elementary Education/ESOL is designed for those who have a bachelor's degree in a non-elementary area from an accredited institution and wish to become certified teachers in grades Kindergarten through six.

Features of the Program

Engaging curriculum

Course work in content area instruction, ESOL instruction, methods, management, and assessment

Flexibility

Coursework completed in four to five semesters for full-time students or up to five years for part-time students

Accessible courses

Mixture of online/hybrid and face-to-face courses all meeting in the evenings from 5:15-8:00

Field experiences

Field experiences designed to facilitate theory to practice connections culminating in a year-long ‘residency’ internship in a local K-5 classroom.

We are still accepting applications for Fall 2011. Please note that students admitted for Fall 2011 will be expected to attend full time (evenings) in the first three semesters and full time (days) for the final two semesters. Coming Soon: In Spring, 2012, the MAT in Elementary Education will become a full time, 4 semester program (Spring, Summer, Fall and Spring) with a year long residency in a local K-5 elementary school. Admission to the program will be Spring only beginning in 2012.
