Subject: Social Studies

Objectives

  • Students will identify the dangers faced by slaves on their journey to freedom.
  • Students will observe the physical features of the land that the slaves traveled on their way to Canada.
  • Students will design a quilt square to represent the journey of the slaves.

Procedure

  • The class will read Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt.
  • Students will text in their thoughts on the dangers faced by slaves on their journey to freedom.
  • The class will use the document camera to view the physical features of a map of the journey taken by the slaves on their way to freedom.
  • Students will use Keynote to design their quilt square that represents the journey of the slaves.
