We will use the document camera to demonstrate small experiments that will show the students things that can happen helping them to connect things they already understand and make new connections and form new concepts on the current topics that we’re studying.

What we want to do is look at what happens when a reaction takes place, and so we have a little beaker and this has acetic acid in there, and you guys should all know how to write the formula for acetic acid because we did that already, and what we’re going to do is add a solid substance to that, and you can see that a reaction took place, and you need to be able to link to that. what did we see happen?

I am using the projector and a PowerPoint presentation to help provide additional information for the students so that they can make new connections.

…is how that actually works. And so when we put this into a solution, it actually breaks that molecule apart, and it’s because of the polarity of the water that it that it actually does that. So we have a water molecule coming in contact. This could be like sodium chloride. And so what you see is what typically is the charge that is on oxygen. So this would be an animation that would kind of show what that process looks like in action.

By using this technology in the classroom, the students not only are able to quickly acquire the information, but they are also able to make connections to future employment, future applications that they may actually have to use once they get out into the workforce.

I believe that the document projector is the best equipment in the digital classroom, because it makes notes easier to see. It puts it right up on the board and you can alter it, so that if like someone like myself has a site problem, the teacher can zoom in and zoom out in order for the whole class to see.
